Simon Cowell Returns To Britains Got Talent!

After being absent from both 2011 installments of the UK’s X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent in favour of their American counterparts, Simon Cowell will be returning as a judge for 2012?s edition of …Talent.

It is thought that the reason for Cowell’s return to British television is the dip in viewing figures that both shows suffered as a result of his departure – the 2011 X Factor final pulled in 13.1m viewers, down 4m compared to 2010 (17.2m). Britain’s Got Talent fared better last year with 14m tuning to watch the shock victory of Jai McDowell over favourite Ronan Parke, but was still down from 2009?s peak 17.3m – the year of international interest surrounding contestant Susan Boyle.

Cowell stated:

“I miss Britain and I miss the British public and I miss judging them,”

In related news, David Hasselhoff has been dropped from the judging panel. He and comedian Michael McIntyre – who quit the series – will be replaced by former Strictly Come Dancing judge Alesha Dixon and Little Britain creator David Walliams.

“Unbelievable” year for Poringland’s Ronan Parke

It started in January when the then 12-year-old Ronan Parke took a day off school to audition for one of the biggest shows on TV, Britain’s Got Talent. Since scooping second place in the programme, he has shot to fame. He was snapped up by Simon Cowell’s record label and his debut album, Ronan Parke, was released in October.

His mum Maggie said: “This year has been different, it has been very exciting for Ronan – he has done so many things and has been living his dream. He has been to Germany to perform on their version of Children in Need. It was a massive weekend for him and it was a nice cause as well. For Ronan, one of the biggest things has been performing at T4 on the beach because it was one of his first gigs. This year has been unbelievable. He keeps saying ‘I’m so lucky’.”

Although he has been touring the country and making guest appearances across Europe, the youngster, who attends Framingham Earl High School, found time to return to his roots.

Mrs Parke said: “Ronan still goes into Norwich all the time. He turned on the lights in The Mall which was exciting but it is still nice that he can live a normal life.

“His school has been amazing and so supportive.”

Mrs Parke said Ronan had received a massive amount of support from his fans. “He has lovely fans We keep all of his letters and cards from fans and try to respond to as many as we can. We always try to make sure we send a signed picture, but with his school work it is not always easy.

“He does get recognised so much. People are really friendly and he likes it.” She said.

Ronan, who is now 13, has also enjoyed earning his own money and has bought himself the latest gadgets. For Christmas, his parents have bought him a digital camera. Mrs Parke said: “He has bought quite a lot of things himself but he really wanted a nice camera so he could capture things and take pictures of his friends.

“He has treated himself – he bought a new laptop and an iPad and he bought me a Mulberry bag after the Britain’s Got Talent tour. He is very generous. He has bought a lot of things for his brother and quite a lot of clothes – his favourite shop is still Topman. He has been away quite a bit and he missed home a little bit when he was on tour because he was at a different venue every night.”

Ronan will be going to Scotland for Christmas with his mum, dad Trevor and older brother Declan. They will be spending it with Mrs Parke’s best friend, Ruth.

She added: “We just want to thank people. Without people’s support he wouldn’t be where he is – it has been amazing. Ronan is grateful for what he has had.

“We want to thank people in Norfolk for their support and wish everyone a merry Christmas.”

Ronan Talks About Norwich and Potters Leisure Resort

The 13-year-old singer from Poringland, who was runner up in this year’s Britain’s Got Talent, appeared at Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton on Friday and Sunday.

He will be coming back home this Friday when he will meet fans and sign autographs at HMV in Gentleman’s Walk, Norwich.

Ronan said: “My performances at Potters went really well; it was a really good crowd.

“It was nice to be performing back in Norfolk and seeing my family as I had been away for a whole week doing promotion for the album.”

Spokesman for Potters Richard Lennox said: “Ronan was fantastic.

“He had a crowd of about 800 people on Sunday and it would have been near enough the same on Friday night.

“He sang five songs – Forget You, Songbird, Stronger Than I Am, A Thousand Miles and Feeling Good.

“He was on stage for about 20 minutes to half an hour as part of a full show by our resident theatre company.”

Potters sales co-ordinator, Lisa Aldis added: “He was so good I nearly cried. I have never seen a singer who is so good. For such a little person he has such a good voice.”

Since he shot to fame, he has toured the country singing and making guest appearances.

Speaking about his self-titled album, which was released yesterday, Ronan said: “I’m really excited about it; I hope people like it. My favourite track is Fix You.”

He said thousands of his fans, dubbed Ronanators, had been holding parties over the weekend to celebrate the release of the album.

While most 13 year olds will be relaxing and enjoying the half term break this week, Ronan will spend every day promoting his album.

“My life has really changed. Having an album out now is great.

“If I didn’t enter Britain’s Got Talent, I would be sitting down at home and it would be normal life. It’s crazy; it’s a big dream for me.”

The album includes covers of Nina Simone’s Feeling Good, Kelly Clarkson’s Because of You and Make You Feel My Love by Adele, both of which he performed during his time on Britain’s Got Talent.

The album also features a track written by Gary Barlow, Stronger Than I Am.

Ronan will be at HMV in Gentleman’s Walk, Norwich, on Friday at 5pm.
